Project Description
The Anna T. Jeanes Building at the Hickman
Memory Care Assisted Living 60,000 Square Feet Tight Sites
A comprehensive master plan has guided The Hickman senior living community’s development for almost 20 years. With the acquisition of adjacent property allowing for a campus expansion, highly collaborative planning began which included focus groups with many stakeholders both within The Hickman and the wider historic West Chester Community. The resulting plan was widely supported and paved way to construct the new senior apartment building (complete with bridge as planned) and most recently a new 72-unit personal care and memory care building which replaced two outdated and inefficient 125-year-old buildings. The new Anna T. Jeanes building provides additional assisted living and memory care apartment living for The Hickman and fits a large program on a small site – 71 apartments and amenity spaces on a 0.88-acre site. Common areas, residential kitchens, dining, support services and offices are carefully positioned throughout the new building, including utilizing an existing tunnel for food service to the kitchen in the adjacent building. Public spaces are located at the building entrance with stair and elevator access to the assisted living apartments and controlled secured access to the memory care apartments and associated offices. To accommodate after-hour events and activities, the Community Room is accessible from the lobby as well as the main entrance.
