Simpson Gardens I
Affordable Housing Urban Site Common Spaces Independent Apartments
Simpson Gardens is a four-story, 43,000 square-foot apartment building for low-income seniors, age 62 and above, sponsored jointly by Simpson Senior Services and Trinity Lansdowne Methodist Church. It consists of 41 one-bedroom and two-bedroom affordable rental units, common areas, 36 parking spaces and a thrift shop run jointly with the church – all on a one-acre urban site at the entrance to the business district in in Lansdowne, Pennsylvania. The building harmonizes architecturally with the character of the historic district of Lansdowne. A sense of community is nurtured by common areas, which include a dining room, activity room, library and central laundry facilities. This extremely economical, tax-credit project was funded by Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA).
