How can you promote flexible teaching lab space in a traditional university lab setting?
LRAI was engaged to renovate several science lab spaces at Temple University’s Dixon Hall and the design team explored ideas of how to create a flexible learning environment that could potentially lead the way for a new classroom model for Temple.
Containing rows of fixed lab desks with integrated sinks, the existing space was inflexible and outdated. The new design concentrated fixed sink benches at either end of the classroom, allowing the remaining space to accommodate movable benches and chairs fed by recessed ceiling-mounted cord reels. The fixed sink benches also double as instructor stations for the teaching walls beyond, containing smart projectors and white boards.
